General description
The students obtain knowledge about clothing material (fibers, yarns, sewing threads, woven and knitted fabrics, nonwovens etc.) classification, structure, properties, testing methods; assortment, characteristics and commercial names of fabrics; assortment of accessories, trimmings and other auxiliary materials.
General aim
To provide knowledge about clothing materials classification, structure, properties, testing methods; to know the principles of materials selection in respect to concrete model; to provide recommendations for technological processes of clothing and textile manufacture.
Aim
On completion of the course the students should be able to know clothing materials classification, structure and properties; to obtain abilities to identify clothing materials according to their fiber composition, structure and manufacturing method; to characterize investigated fabrics and to formulate conclusions; to evaluate the influence of structure and properties of investigated fabrics on their behaviour during manufacture and wear; to present recommendations for clothing manufacture as well as to obtain the communication skills.
Form description
The knowledge about composition, classification, nomenclature of clothing materials is provided during the lectures and individual work using visual demonstration aids and investigating real clothing materials. The abilities to recognize and to characterize clothing materials are trained during laboratory work. The level of obtained abilities is evaluated making reports for laboratory works. The level of knowledge is evaluated at the examination.
