Concept and branches of cartography, short history of cartography, concept of a map, map classification and properties, mathematical basis of a map, cartographic projections, map letters, cartographic generalisation, map quality, the production process of a map, more important national maps, copyright in cartography.
The notion of a digital map. Map digitization. Basics of telemetry. Aero photo. Digital photo technology. Digital cartography equipment and its handling. |

| General aim |
The objective of the course is to provide the students knowledge about the representation of the Earth on a plane, maps, about deformations that occur there and the compilation of maps.
The objective of Digital Cartography is to give an overview of digital maps. |

| Aim |
Having successfully passed the course the students:
- command necessary basic knowledge about the history of cartography, a map, its properties, mathematical basis of the map, cartographic projections, map letters, cartographic generalisation, production process of a map and map quality.
The student can make the difference between screen and vector maps, knows the technology of satellite pictures, s/he masters the use of digital maps. |
