General description
Concept and branches of cartography, short history of cartography, concept of a map, map classification and properties, mathematical basis of a map, cartographic projections, map letters, cartographic generalisation, map quality, the production process of a map, more important national maps, copyright in cartography. The notion of a digital map. Map digitization. Basics of telemetry. Aero photo. Digital photo technology. Digital cartography equipment and its handling.

General aim
The objective of the course is to provide the students knowledge about the representation of the Earth on a plane, maps, about deformations that occur there and the compilation of maps. The objective of Digital Cartography is to give an overview of digital maps.

Aim
Having successfully passed the course the students: - command necessary basic knowledge about the history of cartography, a map, its properties, mathematical basis of the map, cartographic projections, map letters, cartographic generalisation, production process of a map and map quality. The student can make the difference between screen and vector maps, knows the technology of satellite pictures, s/he masters the use of digital maps.
