Introduction into topography and cartography. Conical and cylindrical map projections. Estonian cartography programme. Choice of cartographic projections. Estonian grid coordinates system. Scales. Cartographic signs. Relief. Contours. Basic forms of a relief. Contours construction on a map. Base of a slope. Inclination. Profile. Lines orientation. Geographic and grid coordinates on a map. Estonian Base Map. Basics of tachometric surveys
General aim
The objective of the course is to provide the students knowledge about topography and cartometry, to introduce the most spread map projections and deal with the deformations that occur on maps
Aim
Having successfully passed the course, the student knows the most spread map projections, can implement the grid coordinates systems that are on the Estonian Base Map and knows the respective cartographic projections. S/he masters the determination of coordinates on a map and can carry out cartometric surveys
