General description
Introduction, units in geodesy. Land survey and charting from ancient times to the 17th century. The development of geodetic instruments and methods since 17th century. Geodesy science in 18th - 19th century. Geodetic and charting works in Estonia from 17th to the beginning of the 20th century. Geodesy science from the end of 19th century to the II World War. Geodetic and charting works in Estonia during the years of the Republic of Estonia 1918 - 1940. Development of geodesy after the II World War. Geodesy and charting in Estonia after the II World War.
General aim
The objective of the course is to give the students knowledge about the development of geodesy and cartography from the ancient times till today. Attention is turned to the history of Estonian geodesy and cartography
Aim
The student knows how the main geodesic instruments have developed, knows the history of cartography and can interpret significant geodetic surveys from the ancient times till today. S/he also knows geodesy scientists throughout the times
